Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) Waters Landscaping
The ABC waters programme is an initiative started by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) in 2006 to transform water bodies in Singapore into vibrant, clean spaces for the community to enjoy.
Under this programme, treatment elements (or ABC Waters design features) can be applied to urban components to slow down, detain or retain the first flush of stormwater runoff while simultaneously cleansing it.
They are cost-effective, natural and environment-friendly green features for sustainable stormwater management. The cost is a small percentage of the total capital cost of the development, while the resulting environmental benefits are many.
As ABC Waters design features are natural systems of plants and soil, minimal maintenance is required.

The document also gives guidance on selection and sizing of the treatment elements with worked examples and checklists.
Prince’s Landscape is a certified member of the ABC Waters Professional Programme. We are approved by the relevant authorities to offer ABC waters landscaping services.

Our ABC Waters Certified Projects
PUB's Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters Programme, launched in 2006, turns drains, canals and reservoirs into green community spaces. Since 2010, its certification has recognised developments whose rain gardens, swales and wetlands clean stormwater on site, with a Gold tier for exceptional projects. In 2024, five projects where Prince's was the landscape contractor received ABC Waters Certification, two of them at Gold.

What Types Of ABC Waters Design Features Are There?
Common ABC Waters design features include rain gardens (bioretention basins), bioretention swales, vegetated swales, bioretention lawns, constructed wetlands and planted dry ponds. Each uses plants and soil to slow down and clean stormwater runoff before it reaches drains and waterways.

What Is The Difference Between ABC Waters Certified And ABC Waters Certified (Gold)?
PUB awards ABC Waters Certification to developments that meet its criteria for ABC Waters design. The Gold tier recognises projects that use ABC Waters design strategies extensively and show outstanding design.
Do ABC Waters Design Features Need Ongoing Maintenance?
Yes, but minimal. Features like rain gardens need regular care such as weeding, replanting, clearing debris and checking that the filter media drains properly. Where applicable, developers and owners also submit an annual certificate of inspection, endorsed by an ABC Waters Professional, to PUB. Our landscape maintenance team can take care of this for you.
