Its undersides are a dark purple which it displays prominently when new leaves unfurl.

The genus Calathea includes foliage plants with some of the most beautiful and striking patterns.
It goes by nicknames such as zebra plant, peacock plant, and rattlesnake plant due to its bold and distinct markings.
The plant prefers light shade with medium dappled light indoors. It does not enjoy direct sun, causing its deep colours to fade and burn its leaves.
Though not drough-tolerant, the plant is forgiving if watering is forgotten from time to time.
Do mist occasionally as the plant enjoys the humidity.
