Common Names: Poinsettia, Christmas Flower
Maximum Height: 0.6 m to 4 m
The colors of the bracts are created through photoperiodism, meaning that they require darkness (12 hours at a time for at least five days in a row) to change color. At the same time, the plants require abundant light during the day for the brightest color.
Poinsettias like moist, but not wet, soil. When the top of the soil becomes dry, add room temperature water to the plant. Allow the water to drain through the pot when watering, and then discard any excess water in the saucer. If your poinsettia begins to wilt, too much or too little water could be the issue. If the plant and soil seems dry, add water immediately. If the container feels heavy and the soil is wet, allow the poinsettia to dry out before watering it again.
