Common Names: Chrysanthemum, Mums, Kekwa
Maximum Height: 1 m
The chrysanthemum is one of the “Four Gentlemen” or “Four Noble Ones”, symbolic of nobility. The chrysanthemum is also one of the four symbolic seasonal flowers – representing autumn. Also a symbol of longevity, people drank chrysanthemum wine on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month during the Han dynasty.
Chrysanthemum prefers cool climate with good ventilation. Grow in fertile, moist and well-drained soil rich with organic matter. Allow the soil to dry between watering. Pinch the tips when plant is about 15 cm tall to promote bushiness. Prefers a sunny spot, chrysanthemums will also grow in partial shade, but may get leggy when reaching for sunlight. Shade grown plants will have weaker stems and exhibit less flowering.
