Tropical pitcher plants native to Madagascar, Southeast Asia, or Australia, Nepenthes has pitcher-like pitfall traps. The lids of the pitcher secretes nectar to attract insects, which become unable to escape from the trap because of its downward-pointing hairs and slick sides. The pitcher plant rely on this carnivory behaviour to obtain nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus to compensate for poor soil conditions.
PLANT CARE
Light: Grows best in bright indirect sunlight. Store in lower light if leaves yellow or turn brown.
Water: Water moderately to keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Try to use distilled water or rain water as Nepenthes is sensitive to chemicals present in tap water.
Fertilizing: Generally do not need to be fertilize but light misting of dilute liquid epiphyte fertilizer is allowed.
