Common Names: Christmas Kalanchoe, Flaming Katy
Maximum Height: 0.5 m
Commonly grown as a potted plant indoors in Singapore, the Kalanchoe is a succulent plant with thick fleshy stems and leaves. Kalanchoe Its produces clusters of small flowers above dark green, waxy leaves. Kalanchoes require long nights of up to 14hrs to induce flowering, usually blooming in November or December in Singapore and last around 4 weeks. Flowers can be red, pink, dark pink, yellow or white, depending on hybrids. The colours of the flowers can be enhanced under bright sunlight once they are established.
Kalanchoes enjoy bright, indirect light. Use a good draining potting mix like cactus or succulent soil. Allow the soil to dry to the touch before watering thoroughly. Fertilize once a month using diluted fertilizer. Prune back as much as you like after flowering season to encourage compact and bushy growth.
